Categories of Arthritis
Arthritis types can be classified in more than 100 categories. However, all these types can be categorized into four major segments: (5)
- Degenerative Arthritis- Osteoarthritisis the disease under this category. It is one of the most common type saffecting cartilages. Cartilage is the slick and cushioning surface at the end of the bones, when it wears away, one bone gets rubbed against the other. This causes pain, stiffness, and swelling. Also, it reduces the strength of joints and pain becomes chronic.
- Inflammatory Arthritis – Rheumatoidarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gouts falls under this category. These are generally caused by an autoimmune disorder. In general immune system makes internal inflammation, which kills the infection inside the body and prevents diseases. However, with an inflammatory type of arthritis, the immune system becomes unable to perform the proper function. Thus, it attacks the body joints with severe inflammation, which in turn erodes bones of the joint.
- Infectious Arthritis – Sometimes joints get inflammation by the intrusion of viruses, fungus, and bacteria.
- Metabolic Arthritis – Excessive uric acid secretion makes needle-like crystals in joints resulting in tremendous joint pain. If this condition is treated, thepain can be relieved.
